1、 Introduction
1Regarding adhesion force
Adhesive force refers to the ability of a material to adhere to the surface of another material, mainly used to describe the interaction force between the adhering material and the adhered object. Adhesive materials generally refer to fluids (liquids or gases), solids, or soft substances.
Attached object refers to an object (solid or soft substance) with a certain surface/interface.
The magnitude of adhesion force mainly depends on the chemical composition and molecular structure of the adhesive material (the existence state determines the arrangement of molecular structures), as well as the surface characteristics of the adhered object (chemical composition and microstructure, where microstructure includes surface/interface molecular structure and geometric structure), and is also related to external conditions such as the medium (gas, liquid) under which adhesion occurs.
2Characterization of adhesion force
Adhesive force characterizes the force required to separate a droplet from the surface it contacts. It provides a method for quantifying the mutual attraction between liquids and solids.
The adhesion force of a surface to a liquid depends on the wettability of the surface, the volume of droplets, the surface tension of the liquid, and the measurement method used. Under given measurement conditions (such as fixed liquid volume and measurement method), the adhesion force is determined by the contact angle of the surface. More specifically, it is determined by the receding contact angle of the surface. The backward contact angle is the critical contact angle at which the solid liquid gas three-phase line begins to contract. A surface with a larger receding contact angle has lower adhesion.
3Determination of adhesion force
The schematic diagram of the adhesion testing method is as follows. Firstly, the droplets attached to the microbalance come into contact with the surface of the sample, and then slowly separate. During this process, the force displacement curve is recorded using a microbalance. The pull-out force when the surface separates from the droplet is the adhesion force.
4Regarding the surface/interface tension meter
The force generated at the interface between a liquid and another immiscible liquid is called the interfacial tension between the liquid phase and the liquid phase; Meanwhile, we usually refer to the tension between liquid and gas phases as surface tension. For example, at 20 ℃, the surface tension of water is 72.75mN/m, which refers to the surface tension at the interface between water and air.
The fully automatic adhesion force measuring instrument can measure both adhesion force and surface tension. The surface tension meter adopts the most commonly used platinum plate method and platinum ring method in production practice.
5Application Fields
Adhesive force can be used to characterize the hydrophobicity of self-cleaning surfaces. Surfaces with low solid-liquid adhesion are more suitable for self-cleaning applications, etc. The application areas include: indoor research and on-site monitoring of tertiary oil recovery (chemical flooding); Research on surfactant, detergent, emulsion and foam; Research on fuel oil, lubricants, paints, inks, and coatings; Research on pesticides and other related fields.
